🌀Au Contraire: Why the gurus are wrong about...
The gurus on social media preach winning. But preachers are the best at deceiving. You can’t preach losing and expect to sell anything. I ain’t no damn preacher so I am going to tell you why you need to lose.
You really don’t want to win. That is the wrong motivation. You want to lose. And you want to lose a lot. The more you lose. The more you will win. I know it’s fucked up, but that is the way it is.
It takes a lot of losing to find a winner. It’s like gambling but the odds are worse. But it’s unlike gambling because your odds change once you win. Once you have a winning hand, you can play it every time. It’s like going through 100 bad hands until you get a royal flush. But once you get a royal flush, you can play it in perpetuity.
Now, this mindset is hard to grasp. Losing is frustrating. It is exhausting. It is debilitating. It is a mental test of your persistence. It is the price to enter.
Now here are some of the principles of losing.
He who loses the most, will win the most.
The donkey ass stubborn will prevail…eventually.
If you can enjoy losing you will be unstoppable.
Society is all about positive affirmation and giving little Johnny a trophy so he doesn’t feel like a loser. When in reality little Johnny needs to learn how to feel like a loser so he can learn how to be worth a fuck.
The more losses your ego can stomach, the more you will win.
“Experience is the name everybody gives to their mistakes” -Oscar Wilde
We always talk about the compounding effect of money, but we never talk about the compounding effect of experience. Experience is knowledge by doing. This can compound wildly and infinitely. This is why losing is the best investment you can ever make. Once you have this knowledge, it is yours to apply forever. Money is finite, but applying your experience is infinite.
I always hear people say, “Nobody wants to work, nobody has a work ethic.” Obviously this is complete whiner bullshit. You just have to suck enough at hiring people to figure out how not to suck. But once you figure this out… you can hire as many people as you need.
The same goes for marketing, management, profitability, etc. Just lose until you figure the shit out.
Your losses are the best investment you will ever make. Each time you learn from trying, you build this massive internal knowledge base of what works. It is like building an investment portfolio that can never be taken away. And it can be used to create wealth out of thin air. I have seen the crazy compounding effects in my own business.
One of my passions is growing my service companies. I am the CMM (chief marketing motherfucker) at my company. And to be good at marketing, you have to be willing to fail a lot. Every one wants a silver bullet, but the more you try and the more you test… you learn things that start to compound. The losses compound into a royal flush. It is like panning for gold. If you sift through enough shit, you will find a little nugget to take away. The more you pan, your nuggets start to compound into an ingot. It is the alchemy of turning losses into gold.
One of my secret recipes in my own business that has made me millions is direct mail. I know… I know… it is old school. Direct mail is dead… blah… blah. But I have been testing and failing for years. Several years ago one piece hit. It was my first royal flush. We added 500 new clients in one year because of this one piece. And it worked for several years, but I kept testing new pieces. Kept losing. Kept improving. Kept learning. Kept studying data. Got better at tracking. Got better at creating a sense of urgency. Got better at creating an offer. Fast forward a few years and several versions later, and now we have a piece will put on 2000 clients a year. Another royal flush.
This has taught me that these losses are really important. I need to lose more. They are learning events. The compounding effect of deep knowledge is the best investment you will ever make. The more hands you can play, the more you lose, the faster you can get your next royal flush.
